Abstract

Contact investigation is essential to prevent tuberculosis (TB) and reduce TB incidence. Health care workers (HCWs) are at increased risk of being infected with TB. This report describes the results of contact investigation of infectious TB patients identified as HCWs in 2015. A total of 2,765 contacts of 173 index TB patients were identified. Contacts were first evaluated by chest radiography (CXR) and eight secondary cases were found. Of 2,765 contacts, 1,358 were tested for latent TB infection by the tuberculin skin test (TST) or interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs). A total of 242 persons (17.8%) were infected.
